IFV varnish is an exceptionally clear lacquer for decorative fire protection of prepared timber and timber derivative surfaces. On exposure to fire IFV Varnish has intumescent properties and expands to create a char barrier, insulating the timber surfaces from heat and oxygen to retard the spread of flames.
For internal and external use on bare or previously varnished surfaces its clear finish enhances the natural beauty and fire protects new and previously varnished internal timber surfaces.
Our IFV intumescent fire varnish has good adhesion and can be applied over existing varnished surfaces. Preparation requires through abrading with wet or dry abrasive paper to provide a key. Wash down with warm detergent solution and rinse with clean warm water. Allow to dry.
A sealer coat / overcoat FVO Varnish is available in Gloss, Satin or Matt finishes. For humid areas apply FVO as a topcoat to IFV varnish. FVO's special formula provides a hard, durable finish suitable for panelling, boarding, furniture etc.
Compatible with most stains, dyes and liming wax. The use of acid fast wood dyes is recommended. Where other types of stains or stained varnishes have been used contact our Technical Department.
IFV is water based and can be thinned with water to any required consistency but must be applied at a specific coverage rate per litre to retain the appropriate fire rating.
Class 1 – Apply IFV Fire Varnish at 6.5m sq. per litre
(150 μ wet).
Class 0 – Apply IFV Fire Varnish at 6.5m sq. per litre
(150 μ wet).
IFV is overcoated with one coat of ASTRO FVO for normal locations and two coats for damp or external locations with coats applied at 12m sq. per litre.
IFV is available in gloss, satin and matt in 2.5 and
5 kilo tins.
FVO is available in 2.5 litre and 5 litre containers.
